Welcome To My Digital Portfolio

I will be showcasing all of my projects from my most recent module for my graphic communications course at the university of southampton. For this module i have been exploring typography, moving image and design through play.

Brief 1: Type for Change

This brief focuses on the importance of typography and hierarchy within design. I had to create three posters adressing the students at WSA about animal tested cosmetics. This brief instructed the use of black typography only and allowed only one colour for the background therefore encouraging experimentation with different elements of typographic design including tracking, kerning, leading, hierarchy and alignment.

For my designs, i experimented with the human face as a grid and created a hierarchy of type uisng the positioning of features on a face

Project 2: Anti-languages

For this brief i had to use AfterEffects to create a video inspired by an anti-language poem. I chose 'Vada That' written in 'Polari' by Adam Lowe. I wanted to focus on the movement of the mouth when pronounciating polari words- to do this i modeled clay to create physical features. I was influenced by spitting image and the design of the puppets because they have exaggerated features to poke fun at political and cultural moments.

Project 3: Design Through Play

For this project, i have created 'life on another planet' inspired by children. I focused a lot on using childrens craft materials and even took inspiration from a few childrens book illustrators such as Eric carle (author and illustrator of The Hungary Caterpillar). I spent a lot of time with my niece, who is less than 2 years old, as part of my research. I observed her play, interact with her toys, animals, and the world around her. I also collected secondary data from my own and my siblings nursery and early years reports to get a broader age range for my target audience.
